This past year's most worn material is... *drumroll please*... yes, you guessed it, LEATHER. Whether it's real, faux, vegan or patent leather, we've all incorporated it in our outfits at least once this year, or you see it on Instagram everyday like I do. Fashion comes in full circle - it can either be a blessing for those who love to hoard years worth of clothing or a terrible demise for those who constantly clean out their closet. I used to be very intimidated by leather clothing because it felt out of the norm to wear it before it got trendy. Now, I can't stop wearing it because the lining of vegan leather pants are unbelievably soft and it's a plus that they are stretchy - comfortable and fashionable!
Leather was always a staple fashion piece in terms of shoes, such as leather calf boots, ankle boots, knee-high boots and even sneakers, but more recently over the years, leather became a popular staple in our closets as well.
This year, one of the most popular pair of leather pants worn by celebrities, influencers and peers around me are the Aritzia Melina pants. They are a straight-legged hug fit pants that come in three lengths - regular, long and cropped, depending on preference and height. For a long time I was debating whether to purchase them but for some reason I was always in between sizes, so the overall fit of the pants ended up being very odd once I tried them on. I even tried the Wilfred straight, the Funk, the Rebel and the Porto pants to see which fit me better, and ended up not getting any at all because it just didn't fit as nicely as I hoped it would on me (it looked so good on everyone else though!). But secretly, I am still obsessed with the olive coloured Melina pants, but too bad they don't have that colour for the longer length. Aritzia leather pants are amazing and are great in terms of style, but it all depends on our body shape, style and color preference and their willingness to spend.
I think that leather is very flattering when your style it correctly. By that, I mean knowing your body shape and understanding the outline and stitching of the pieces that you are wearing, whether it is a leather top, jacket, skirt or pants. Moreover, you need to know what style of clothes can complement this bold, eye-catching piece. Leather pants are popular for its versatility to bring new looks to people from casual and laid-back street-style outfits to elegant and poised evening outfits.
When you style straight legged leather pants, baggy sweaters and tops are suitable for a more casual look while a tight and fitted top such as a sweetheart neckline top or ribbed sweater, would make a more clean look. Fitted clothing highlight and emphasize our shape and figure when the pants is straight and tight. I personally prefer purchasing pants that have the belt loops so that even if I decide to size up, which I did for the ZARA faux leather pants below, using a belt allowed me to wear the pants in two different ways. One is the regular fit on the waist for a longer casual look and the other I was able to lift up the pants to dress as high-waisted leather pants and wear boots to elongate my legs.
I wanted to share with you some of the outfits I have styled with the leather pants that I own, as well as other looks I find flattering as well:

Leather Outfit Ideas:
I styled leather pieces that are both patterned and typically harder for many create outfits for because I know that many people don't steer out of the monochrome or nude color palettes when it comes to clothing - which is completely understandable because I am one of those people. But for those who want to try something new, I added the brand along side the specific piece of clothing for easier search! And to make your life easier, I linked alternative brands at different price points so that it is suitable for all fashionistas (all links down below)!
I hope you love these fits as much as I loved styling them. Like and a comment below on your favourite style as well as pieces you would love for me to style next!
