About Me

Hi! Nice to meet you.

I am an aspiring marketing specialist student at the University of Toronto. Throughout my post-secondary experience, I have had the opportunity to work and study abroad in Asia, where it continuously sparked my interests for learning about the world because I enjoy of the exploring the culture, food and capturing the rawest moments of every day life.

Goal for this blog: I want this to be an unconventional blog offering anything and everything, from food hunting destinations to fashion and beauty inspiration, from travelling archives to rants on millennial life struggles, and so much more.

Why I started it: I strongly believe in finding a comfortable space to share our intellectual and creative content, whether it be using social media, videos, blog posts or a good old pen and paper, because life is too short to dwell over past and future failure when all we really need to do is just start somewhere.

I hope that my readers enjoy my style of writing and appreciate my life shared in the most authentic, honest and captivating way as possible.

Janie A. Chiu

Hello, my name is Janie Chiu and welcome to my website. I am a fourth year BBA Marketing Co-op Specialist at the University of Toronto. I was born in Asia, and my family and I immigrated to Canada over 15 years ago. I am the youngest of three siblings and I was raised in the West coast (Vancouver) and moved across the country to pursue my business degree (Toronto). I have worked and studied abroad in Hong Kong and Singapore during the four years of my university degree because I am a travel bug. Learning, exploring and absorbing the different countries and their culture and environment has pushed me to be more self-reflective and appreciative in the earth I call home.

Why did I started this blog?

I have always wanted to start my own blog/ website because I used to journal a lot about my emotions, my worries and everything I was afraid to let other people know, I put them down on paper. I wanted to make YouTube videos of travel vlogs, do Mukbangs (don't get me wrong, that is still on my list of to-dos that I am working on), but I had an unrealistic number of goals that I tried to achieve and trying to be everywhere all at once. So these overwhelming desires were just blank goals that were put off. I also had this really negative mentality thinking that "If I never start, I won't have to accept failure," because I was not confident in what I had to offer and I kept overthinking about how if I tried to do something for myself creatively, I would be judged for what I publish to the world. But the truth is, whatever we do, people will talk and make their own judgements and this was a hurdle I had to accept and get over.

The worst way to live your life because I end up forfeiting opportunities that I could have achieves because of the fear of taking that one step - to start. We all need to start somewhere, anywhere. Your determination will drive results and that is really the objective of my website. Proving to myself that I can build an empire (big or small) that solely belongs to me creatively, intellectually and spiritually.

Fun facts about me!

  1. I am a black-belt in Tae Kwon Do

  2. I have been in Scouts for almost 15 years of my life

  3. I speak 4 (or 3.5) languages: English, Mandarin, Cantonese and un peu de Français

A destination I want to visit most is...
Bali, Indonesia or Europe

When I was in Singapore for my exchange, my biggest goal was to go to Bali and visit the different temples and hike to see the sunrise because I am obsessed with the tranquility and serenity of the beaches, forests and Balinese culture. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my trip plans for Bali due to the Covid-19 pandemic and has since b
